The Rylands, Manchester.

Extensive rooflight package including new atrium, multi-part rooflights and replacement cupolas.

Due for Completion Q4 2025.

Background

The Rylands Building, a Grade II listed landmark in the heart of Manchester, is set to undergo a sensitive and ambitious restoration that will breathe new life into one of the city’s most iconic structures.

Originally constructed in the 1930s as a symbol of prosperity and vision by entrepreneur John Rylands, the building will be transformed into a vibrant, multi-use destination that blends heritage with innovation.
Ideally positioned between Manchester’s central business district and the tech-forward Northern Quarter, the development will offer a unique mix of high-quality workspace, retail, and leisure facilities. A striking new roof extension will introduce four floors of contemporary, light-filled office space, while the central atrium – flooded with natural light – will act as the building’s connective heart.

The project is targeting both BREEAM Excellent and NABERS 5* ratings, underscoring a commitment to sustainability and occupant wellbeing.

Project Brief

We have been appointed by Domis Construction to design, supply, and install a range of bespoke rooflight systems as part of the Rylands Building refurbishment. Working in collaboration with Jeffrey Bell Architects, our future scope of works will include 12 fixed overclad rooflights, two cupola rooflights, and a large atrium rooflight.

These rooflight installations will be key to improving natural light throughout the development while complementing the architectural integrity of this historic structure. The central atrium rooflight, in particular, will form a focal point within the building – bringing daylight into the heart of the space and developing a strong sense of openness and community.

We look forward to contributing our expertise in delivering high-performance, technically advanced glazing solutions to this transformative project – restoring the Rylands Building’s legacy while preparing it for a modern future.
